not provide the people any money. fortunately with the obama administration this has changed and these people are coming back and being able to be given some money, so on the federal level i think there's some improvement. when it comes to san francisco i think we need to do more, and i would research this further and answer that question later. thank you. >> all right thank you sir. >> i am under the assumption i'm a problem solver. first you have to identify the problem and i would lump this into three groups. you have people who do not want to be helpedda that want to be live on the street. you have people that don't know where the help is and people people that want it and we need to identify the people that want to be helped that can be helped and there are certain people no matter what you do they do not want help. they want to live on the streets and that in turn we should enforce the laws on the books, and that is the only way i believe you can solve the problem. it's not about money. it's about identifying the problem and i believe you've got to identify who the homeless people a

. obama did describe the events as an act of terror twice. some officials of the obama administration suggested that the united states had no indication that it was a planned assault. did you have any response to that? guest: i would point out that, several times the obama situation pointed to it being a protest that got out of hand. i do believe that the white house was not straight forward with the american people from the beginning. host: florida, on our independent line. caller: question to the chair person -- and why did the candidates go into the michigan or ohio area and to make a statement about relocating to china? and never retracted the statement or put out anything from his committee. every time he makes a misstatement, he never comes back and tries to correct it to explain the coup methodology behind that? guest: biden not get that question. -- i did not get that question. host: he had concerns he was raising about the truth telling of that. guest: i think it is clear that the president has not been a firm with china. we have copyrights and trademarks being piloted with c
the treasury in terms of what to do next with the gse is. and presumably, an obama administration would follow something along those lines after dealing with the fiscal cliff and tax reform and all the other issues that are on the agenda. what about romney administration? what sorts of proposal, if any, have been articulated? >> well, let me make it clear that i did not say that there had been a proposal by the administration. they produced a long awaited white paper in january of 2011. a government solution, he plans solution, or a hybrid solution. i am not being facetious in saying that. so we haven't had a proposal from either side. the mortgage market has changed because of that and i think that the republicans and the administration, as they came in, would want to go more towards a free-market kind of solution without any gse. i would hope that the suggestion that i made and the mortgage bankers association made would be seen as something that both sides could live with, and that it is largely a private capital solution. there is not a freddie or fannie. they're our are capital companies

's taking so long? >> remember, the obama administration testified in a hearing that we had that they were watching this or witnessing this virtually in real time. we have survivors that were there on the scene. they know exactly what happened. when i went to libya and i visited with the people there at our embassy in tripoli, there was no doubt in their minds what had happened. there was no mention of the video. there was no mention of a mob. but they know exactly what happened, plus supposedly according to press reports, we had drones in the air. so i think we do know what happened. we have four dead americans and we have an administration that is not being held accountable. it's been mislieding the public and they're not releasing the video and audio we though that they have. >> steve: why aren't they being held accountable? i know a couple days ago, the president sat down for a local tv interview with a guy from kusa out in denver and a couple of times he said, were they denied requests for help? we're talking about the c.i.a. guys who said, we want to go in and help those guys and app
the president himself, but also the overall administration, governor christie saying that the obama administration acted very quickly in not only declaring the state of emergency for the state of new jersey, but also a disaster declaration. so he had a lot of kind words for the president. they will be joined, as we pointed out, together, getting a chance to see some of the damage up close, but also the president will be talking with residents there who have been affected by the hurricane, and also talk to first responders. what you're seeing from the white house is a real aggressive effort to show that the president is staying on top of this disaster. releasing a couple of photographs of the president inside the situation room, getting briefings. overnight, i'm told by a white house official, the president got a number of briefings, and will get another briefing this morning, a briefing that's been described as, quote, substantial, and this follows a call that the president jumped on late last night, with some utilities executives where he told them that he -- his administration wou

made more attempts to -- do you believe the obama administration mishandled this leading up to the attack and what could have been done better and should be done better going forward? >> absolutely it was mishandled and to learn there were cries for help, literally people asking for additional support and that they went unanswered, that's unacceptable. when we get back to washington, we will conduct oversight hearings and make sure our ambassadors and the conflicts are protected. we have to make sure they have what they need and the republican leadership at $300 million from embassy security. we need to make sure we have the resources and protection they need. i don't think there is any other explanation other than it was not handled properly -- was not handled properly and i believe the congress's oversight capacity needs to make sure this doesn't happen again. it is challenging many going to these other countries but on the anniversary of my/loan, we should have been on heightened security. i would make sure those abroad to support our interest and other countries and try
that, public-private partnerships. something the obama administration is in talking about for a number of years. a small amount of seed money from the government that brings in a lot of private money sitting on the sidelines, that's looking for investments in things that pay longer-term. toll roads is a classic example. so we do far less than we could do an infrastructure as we don't have appropriate structures. you do see interesting things happening. i mean, new york is set up an infrastructure bank to do with the state level was not at the federal level. chicago, mayor emmanuel announced the launch of a $7 infrastructure project in chicago, again to bring private money sitting on the sidelines. so that's a very good example of what can be done. the u.s. is losing ground on a lot of key components of infrastructure and for understandable reasons. governments don't have an awful lot of money. so if you're waiting on the line on government appropriations in government borrowing for infrastructure investments, that is not the best way forward in the current environment. so that's a very

engaged. who is at fault? media for not covering the story, administration for not reporting it or both? >> greg: the media is so far in obama's pockets they have bruises from his quarters. i agree with bob. we don't need the rumors. there are enough facts out there that are so bad i would wait on a rumor. it's not the fog of war to blame. fog of incompetence. i have come up with a new phrase. obama fog. that's when the always articulate captain perfect goes mute over stuff that really matters. >> andrea: dana, the bush administration dealt are the october surprises. and you handled messaging in the white house. has the president passed the point of coming clean on this? >> dana: they did way back then on september 13. the point of no return was the day susan rice, the ambassador went on the tv and said something demonstrably false. you haven't seen or heard from her sense. >> greg: how many story from the filmmaker over the champion of expression? >> bob: how many rumors is newt gingrich going to have? >> andrea: when we come back -- we'll see if it's a rumor. >> bob: we'll see. >> and

's to president obama's benefit. not only does its make his administration look competent but it makes the case for a government role, the role of government has been one of the fundamental debates between these two candidates. if the federal response does not look so competent we've seen how devastating that can be for incumbent presidents. we saw that with katrina, for instance, and george w. bush. >> woodruff: dan, what about a role for governor romney at a time like this? >> well, it's minimal at this point. i mean he really has to remain essentially invisible. he can't look like he's trying to do anything to exploit the politics of the moment. so in a sense there's more potential up side for president obama, but as susan said more potential down side for governor romney i think it is a matter of just kind of waiting and watching and then deciding at what point he can go back out. i mean one of the issues is, does this short circuit kind of the surge of energy that we've seen around the romney campaign? there's no question that there is more energy out there in the republican base and at ev
